Agbaje faults APC leaders on developments
The governorship candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has said the leaders
of the All Progressives Congress are not true progressives.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday about
his plans to transform the economy of the state, Agbaje claimed that the
Governor Babatunde Fashola administration had not maximised the full
potential of the state.
Reacting to the condemnation that trailed
his comment that the South-South people would shut down the oil sector
if President Goodluck Jonathan did not win the presidential election,
Agbaje said he was not in support of violence but that he was only
trying to present the situation that may arise.
He said, “I am not in support of
violence. Everybody that knows me can tell you that I hate violence. The
facts are before us. It is very clear to us that post-election violence
may occur. If Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) does not win, we may
have problems in the North and if President Goodluck Jonathan does not
win, there may be violence in the South-South. It now depends on how
prepared we are to curb this situation if they arise.”
He said although the Gross Domestic
Product and the Internally Generated Revenue of the state had increased
over the years, it had not translated to the reduction of poverty and
better social welfare.
“The IGR of Lagos has grown from N10bn in
1999 to around N400bn today. The question we should ask ourselves is
this: How has this translated to improved lives? Can we say we have
achieved tangibly in terms of improving the necessary social conditions
for the residents? This government and the APC cannot be called a true
progressive government and that is the point of change for us,” he said.
