The headquarters of Michika Local Government area in Adamawa state has been reportedly under attack by the Boko Haram sect .
A military source who confirmed the attacked to ThisDay, revealed that the military authority has drafted more troops to the area so as to repel the insurgents from taking over control of the town and its environs.
At the time of sending this report, the source said the Nigerian troops with the collaboration of the local hunters were involved in a fierce battle with insurgents.
He noted that he believed that the troops will overwhelm the insurgents at the end of the battle.
Also confirming the attack, the Secretary of the local hunters, Mr James Philip, said that for three days now, the insurgents have been on rampage in communities around Michika.
He said people living in these communities have fled and already taking refuge on mountains tops while some are living under trees inside the bush.
According to him, although the insurgents have killed several people in the area, the troops and local hunters are doing everything possible to wipe them completely from the areas.
"The troops also killed several insurgents. These boys don’t stay in Michika; they come from their hideout to attack whenever they want to, and normally come in their hundreds to attack," he said.
An eyewitness account said that the insurgents  were aiming at Michika so as to capture it again and hoist their flag.
He said they stormed the area about 4pm from Sambisa forest but on reaching the town, they met stiff resistance from the troops detailed to cordon off the area.
The member representing Michika in the Adamawa Assembly, Adamu Kamale, also confirmed that for three days now the insurgents have been having a field day in the area
He also used the opportunity to call on government to act fast if not the insurgents will wipe out all the remaining villages that is yet to be attacked adding that many people who flee from Michika, Madagali last year are still hiding in those villages.
It could be recall the Michika was around September last year captured by the insurgents before troops and local hunters recaptured the local government headquarters from the control of the insurgents, since then most of the residents of the area are presently taking refuge in the state capital and have not return.
