Kidnapped Chinese worker regains freedom

A Chinese working with the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) in Kaduna State, who was abducted last week by unknown gunmen has regained freedom.

The man, attached to the company’s station in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area, was seized by gunmen in Koro-Ija while supervising labourers working on the Kaduna-Abuja standard gauge railway tracks.

The source said the gunmen requested a huge sum of money as ransom. He said at the initial stage, authorities of the Chinese company held talks with the gunmen by telephone on how the abducted man could be freed from captivity without ransom.

“The man was freed after a large sum of money was paid,” the source added.
Meanwhile, police in Kaduna State and the FCT have yet to comment on the matter.
