8 Prisoners Get Amnesty In Ondo State

Eight prisoners serving different jail terms in Ondo State got amnesty on Thursday  in the spirit of the yuletide.

According to a statement issued by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s gesture was in line with the power conferred on him by section 212 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution.

One of the beneficiaries of the amnesty, who was convicted over a capital offence, got his jail term reduced to 15 years, while the others who were convicted for stealing and burglary were pardoned.

They were all granted amnesty on the ground of good conduct and the amnesty takes immediate effect.
