Two policemen, corps member, one other killed in Ekiti bank robbery

Two policemen and two others, including a female corps member, were killed when the First Bank of Nigeria Plc branch in Ikere-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State, was attacked on Monday.

The robbers were said to have attacked a police station near the branch.

The police station was located in Kajola area of the community.
There, the robbers shot and killed a male police officer in his office, while a female officer, was said to have made to escape before she was shot dead.

It was gathered from sources in the community that the robbers invaded the town after the bank’s closing hours.

The news filtered in at about 4:45pm, with the source saying: “There is commotion in Ikere-Ekiti.”

The robbers were said to have fled from the town in different directions following the arrival of soldiers and policemen on the scene, with the source adding that they shot indiscriminately as they escaped.

The same branch of the bank was robbed late last year.
The branch was bombed then.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Babayemi, confirmed the robbery attack.

Babayemi, however, said he was yet to confirm the casualty figure.
He said security men had been deployed in the area.
