Court Remands 2 Businessmen In Prison For Producing Of Fake Drugs


A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday remanded two businessmen, Kingsley Chibueze and Osita Ezea in prison custody over their alleged involvement in the sale of fake drugs. 

The accused are arraigned before Justice Okon Abang by National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on separate charges, bordering on the alleged offence. 

While Chibueze was arraigned on three count charge of illegal distribution of fake Chloroquine tablets and Yellow capsules, Ezea was charged on a four count charge of importing fake Buscomac and Primolut N tablets. 

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge and Justice Okon Abang ordered they be remand in prison custody, pending the hearing of their bail application. 

The judge then adjourned the case to December 18 for commencement of trial. 

Before the adjournment, the prosecutor, Umar Shamaki had informed the court that the accused committed the offence on October 28. 

He said they were arrested at the Trade fair complex and C-Umeh park Iddo respectively in Lagos, on a tip off, and the fake products recovered. 

According to the prosecution the offences contravened the provisions of sections 3 (1) (a) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drug and Unwholesome Processed Foods Act, 2004. 

He also maintained that the crime also contravens the provisions of sections 1(1) of the Food, Drugs and Related products Act, 2004.
