A Federal High Court sitting in Kano State has adjourned till  November 28 the case filed by some lecturers of Bayero University, Kano against President Goodluck Jonathan and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

The lecturers had on October 8 this year, dragged the president, the National Assembly, CAN president and four others before the court over the use of a private jet belonging to Pastor Oritsejafor to allegedly smuggle $9.5m to South Africa to purchase weapons.

The plaintiffs are: Dr. Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa, Dr. Salisu Shehu, Isa Ibrahim Garba, Kamilu Hassan Kwatawa, Umar Jibrin Gwandu, Professor Ishaq Akintola of Lagos State University and six others.

At the resumed hearing of the case on Thursday, the plaintiffs urged the court, through their counsel, Audu Bulama, to grant them leave to serve the defendants with court summons to compel them to appear before the court.

The lecturers also prayed the court to grant them leave to appoint DHL
Express to act as bailiff to serve the originating process on the defendants.

The trial judge, Justice Fatu Riman granted the prays and adjourned the case till 28 November for further mention.

The CAN leader’s private plane with US registration number N808 HG was one of two jets cited by South African officials on September 5.

Oritsejafor’s jet arrived South Africa with $9. 3 million cash loaded in several suitcases.

News of the seizure of the cash triggered questions about the ownership of the jets and weapons they intended to purchase.
