The Director General of the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) Dr. Anthony Anuforom on Monday said despite the growth recorded in the aviation sector in the last 10 years, Nigerian airports and airlines were not among the best 10 in Africa.
Citing a recent Skytrack polling studies which used criteria that included airline lounges, comfort amenities, arrival services and ticket counter to determine airports ranking, he said Nigerian airports were rated lowly.
“What about airlines, we do not rank anywhere among the best 10 airlines in Africa. This is not to say we have not made effort. The transformation agenda has brought us some changes but we need to do more. We need to refocus to make our system more centric.
“Until the passengers say we are satisfied it is at that point that we will say we have made it,” he said.
He was speaking at the launched of an online portal to provide sufficient and reliable data for
air passengers to make informed decisions about flights and airports
operations.
The initiative called the Nigeria
Aviation Passengers Service portal is part of efforts to improve the
perception of Nigerian airports and airlines.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja yesterday, aviation minister, Chief Osita Chidoka said the passenger portal had information about searching for flights, airlines routes in the country, their time of departure, arrival as well as performance survey.
The portal can be accessed at www.aviationportal.com.ng and a helpline number 0700111111.
