NO fewer than two people were, at the weekend, killed, while many others got injured as hoodlums went on the rampage in Badia area of Ijora, Lagos State.
The hoodlums also vandalised several vehicles and looted goods worth millions of naira as they reportedly used the opportunity to burgle some homes and shops in the area.
The deceased persons, identified simply as Wasiu and Taiwo, were reportedly sleeping in their homes at 92A, Gaskiya College Road, when the hoodlums, suspected to be from a neighbouring Akorede Street, unleashed mayhem on their house.
Three people, identified as Shina Sherif, Mustapha Akanbi and Rofia Moruf, were reportedly stabbed by the rampaging hoodlums, with the trio receiving treatment at different hospitals.
Mustapha was, as of Sunday evening, still receiving treatment at Barat hospital, following machete injury on his head and shoulder, while the duo of Rofia and Shina were rushed to Military Hospital, Yaba, following the severity of their injuries.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the assailants had accused residents of Sule Street of harbouring some members of rival group, who had ealier clashed with them.
It was gathered that the bandits, numbering over 10, had, between Saturday night and Sunday morning, invaded Sule Lane, Obale Street and end of Obale Bridge axis, attacking residents with dangerous weapons.
A resident of the area, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune under condition of anonymity, stated that the crisis started about a week ago, when a hotelier gave money to two factions of hoodlums.
He added that a misunderstanding over the money led to a clash between the “Aiwo Boys” and their counterpart from Akorede
“The Akorede Boys retuned to the area and began to attack people, accusing them of habouring the Aiwo Boys in the area,” the resident said.
The state police image maker, Kenneth Nwosu, through a text message, confirmed the incident to journalists.
“There was a report this morning that one Taye and Wasiu were stabbed and died while receiving treatment. This happened over a protracted dispute between some area boys,” Nwosu said.
The Lagos police image maker added that “effort is on to arrest the perpetrators, as the area is being closely monitored.”
