Panic In Bayelsa Over Killing Of 6 Soldiers

There was panic among indigenes of coastal communities in Bayelsa State following the recent killing of soldiers attached to the Joint Military Task Force by suspected sea pirates in an ambush along the waterways of Nembe local government area of the state.

The indigenes of Nembe and Brass communities have therefore abandoned water transportation and resorted to using the uncompleted Amakalakal-Nembe road in truck and utility vehicles.

The fear by the indigenes of the coastal communities stemmed from the killing of three soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force (JTF) code-named Operation Pulo Shield on Tuesday, two days to Christmas and barely three days after the same number of soldiers lost their lives in a pirate attack along Santa Barbara, a notorious river in Nembe local government area.

In the Santa Barbara incident which occurred on Sunday, the bandits hijacked a military gunboat used by the victims to escort items from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Brass terminal owned by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).

It was gathered that before JTF’s search-and-rescue team could recover the bodies of the Brass-bound soldiers, gunmen launched a fresh attack on soldiers at Azagbene in Ekeremor local government area.
