DSSS clears Modu Sheriff for Borno senatorial election
FORMER governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, will contest for the Borno Central Senatorial seat after being cleared recently by the Department of State Security Services (DSSS) over alleged sponsorship of the Boko Haram Islamist sect.
With this security clearance, Sheriff will contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after submitting the Borno Central Senatorial ticket through a consensus arrangement said to have been reached in Abuja.
A PDP source in Maiduguri also confirmed yesteray the “security clearance” of the former governor to contest the senatorial seat. He will contest with Senator Ahmed Zanna, who also recently defected from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC)..
In 2011, Khalifa, then a member of the PDP, defeated Sheriff in the senatorial elections with a wide margin of votes.
