Chad not involved in Chibok girls’ kidnap, says envoy
The government of Chad says it has nothing to do with the abduction
of Chibok girls by Boko Haram on April 14 as being speculated in the
media.
The deputy ambassador of Chad to Nigeria, who simply identified
himself as “Dr. Muhammed”, made the comment on Wednesday when
the #BringBackOurGirls group stormed the embassy.
“Chad and Nigeria are brothers. Governments will come and go but
the relationship between Chad and Nigeria will remain,” he said.
“Chad has nothing to do with the girls. The relationship between
Nigeria and Chad is bound by history and geography.”
The Chadian government had refused to make a statement since the
failed ceasefire between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram it
reportedly brokered.
Riot police in hundreds guarded the embassy as the advocacy group
stormed the place to ask questions regarding the role of the Chadian
government in the botched ceasefire and negotiations with Boko
Haram to release the abducted Chibok girls.
