NECO Records 77.5% Passmark In Nov/Dec

National Examination Council (NECO) has recorded fewer enrolment of candidates into its November/December External Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) in 2017 even as it recorded 77.5 per cent level of pass.

The Registrar of the Council, Professor Charles Uwakwe who released the result yesterday at the conference hall of the headquarters of the council  in Minna, stated that 42,985 candidates registered for examination but 42,429 sat for the examination in 2017. 

The breakdown showed that the 42,429 who sat for the examination in 2017 were lower than 47,118  candidates who sat for the examination  in 2016, indicating that fewer candidates sat for  NECO external examination in 2017. 

Prof. Uwake breakdown however showed that on the performance rate of the candidates 77.5 per cent of the candidates representing 32,917 passed with five credits and above in 2017, while 35,744 representing 75.8 percent passed with five credits and above in 2016. 

The analysis of the result state by state showed that Ogun State tops with 91.4 per cent level of pass, followed by Akwa Ibom State with 87.9 per cent and Abia with 85.4 per cent level of pass while Zamfara has the lowest level of pass of 12.9 per cent, Borno 26.6 per cent and FCT Abuja with 29.93 per cent of pass. 

The analysis also showed that the percentage of malpractices is lower in 2017 than 2016; while in 2016,  7, 698 cases were recorded representing 16.3 per cent, in 2017  4,425 cases was recorded representing 10.4 per cent of the entire statistic.
