Ex-Presidents, VPs Get Monetised N400m Vehicle Allowance Annually

Investigation has revealed that about N400 million meant for the purchase of vehicles for former presidents, heads of state and vice presidents will now be monetised.

While former presidents are expected to get N280 million, former vice presidents will share N120 million as monitised vehicle allowance.

The details were contained in a financial report submitted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, yesterday,  to the House of Representatives Committee on Inter-governmental Affairs during the 2017/2018 budget defence session for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

According to the report, the sum of N40 million was monetised out of a total sum of N210 million proposed for procurement of vehicles for seven former president and Heads of State in the  2017 budget.

Outside the N170 million yet to be disbursed, an additional sum of N96 million was proposed for procurement of vehicles in the 2018 budget estimates, for the beneficiaries who include former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd).

Similarly, the sum of N210 million was proposed for procurement of vehicles for former Vice-Presidents Namadi Sambo, Atiku Abubakar and others, while the sum of N120.090 million was released in 2017.

This is just as a balance of N90 million was proposed under the same sub-head  in 2018 budget estimate submitted to the National Assembly.

The proposal form part of the N2.492 billion and N2.492 billion capital expenditure for 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Also, the sum of N130 million was proposed for procurement of 2nos Toyota Land Cruiser-Prado Jeeps; N65.551 million for ambulance and clinic equipment, while the sum of N170 million was proposed for Independence/Democracy Day celebrations, for 2018.

Other proposed expenditure for 2018 are: N1.734 billion for political appointees; N760.277 million for honorarium and sitting allowance; N133.421 million for welfare packages; N88.65 million for purchase of office furniture and fittings; N18.36 million for purchase of computers and N456.64 million for computer software acquisition.

The sum of N116.64million was earmarked for the support/maintenance of e-council document; N60 million for upgrade and turn around maintenance of Council Chambers Conference system; N30 million radio frequency identification device system (RFIC); N35 million for expansion of local area network/OSGF website upgrade and N40 million for socio-economic impact studies challenges/solutions.
