Court remands two men in prison for robbery, murder

Two men were on Monday arraigned before a Lagos High Court sitting in Lagos for alleged robbery of a petrol station and murder of one of its attendants.

The defendants, Rufai Aliyu (25) ,Abdulrasak Bello (22) are facing a three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder.

According to the prosecution team led by Mrs C.K Tunji-Carrena, the defendants at about 11pm on the May 2, 2015 robbed a petrol station situated at No, 12/14, Iju road, Ifako-Ijaiye Lagos.

The charge read against the defendants says that : Rufai Aliyu, Abdulrassak Bello and others at large conspired among themselves to commit armed robbery.

” Rufai Aliyu, Abdulrassak Bello ands other at large on May 2, 2015, did robbed MEF Petrol Filling station of the total sum of four hundred and seventy thousand naira (N470,000).

“Rufai Aliyu, Abdulrassak Bello robbed one Mr Dayo Omotayo of the sum of one hundred and sixty-two naira (N162, 000 )."

The duo were also alleged to have murdered the petrol station attendants Daramola Yemisi by tying his neck, hands, mouth, legs with clothes, causing his death.

The prosecution informed the court that the offences committed by the defendants contravenes Sections 297, 295 and 221 of the Lagos State Criminal law of Lagos state, 2011.

The defendants however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding judge, Justice Josephine Oyefeso thereafter adjourned the matter till March 27, 2018 for commencement of trial.
