Sunday Oliseh Leads Dutch Team, Fortuna Sittard To First Title In 23 Years

Former Super Eagles manager and Nigerian football legend, Sunday Oliseh has lead his Dutch team, Fortuna Sittard to their first ever title in 23 years.

Oliseh, who secured a job with the Dutch Eerste Divisive(Dutch Second Division) side last season helped them escape relegation and this season has led them to their first title in over two decades.

There are four different periods of nine matches each in the Eerste Divisie with possibilities of each period having a winner. The winner of each period will qualify automatically for the playoffs which is a step fro them to get promoted to the Eredivisie.

Oliseh’s Fortuna SiSittard have been crowned champions of the second period after winning seven games in a row with the elated Oliseh feeling fulfilled that he helped take Sittard off the dungeons of a lack of success.

“We wanted to win this for the fans because they have not won anything in over 20 years, from a club that was dying in January to a club that is winning a Period title.” Olishe said.

Also on social media, he tweeted: “Our victory over Jong Ajax 2-1 today @FortunaSittard not only makes it a record seven victories in a row, but secures us the 2nd Period title. Fortuna’s 1st title in 23 years. God is Great!”

Fortuna Sittard now top the league table with 44 points from 20 Eerste Divisie games after their seventh league win on the bounce.

They face Dordrecht next Friday in their next game.
