Police arrest woman who set husband ablaze on Valentine’s Day
The Ekiti Police Command has arrested a woman, Mrs. Bukola Olusegun, 30, who allegedly set fire on her husband, Abimbola Olusegun, 32, during a disagreement on February 14, Valentine day.
Trouble started for Olusegun, a commercial driver and an indigene of
Ado Ekiti, who lives in Idolofin area of Ado Ekiti, when he left home on
the said day to have fun, without his wife.
He returned home at about 6pm on Valentine’s Day to meet his angry
wife, who had been accusing him of infidelity.
Neighbours said they first overheard the couple exchanging words
before the husband later ran out of the house with fire all over him.
A neighbour told reporters that, “It was mid-night that the husband
suddenly ran out from his apartment and cried for help, raising the
alarm that his wife had set him ablaze. He was burning and was
battling with the fire his wife had put on him.
“We had to rush out to rescue him by quickly getting water and
pouring it on him. But for the prompt intervention of some of us, he
would have been burnt to ashes. He was thereafter rushed to the Ekiti
State University Teaching Hospital where he is still being treated. We
also reported the incident at Ado Central Divisional Police Station from
where policemen promptly came to arrest his wife.”
The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Albert Adeyemi,
who confirmed the incident, said Olusegun’s wife had confessed to the crime.
“According to the Divisional Crime Officer, Ado Central Divisional
Police station, the woman set her husband ablaze because he didn’t
celebrate the Valentine with her nor take her out for fun during the
lovers’ day celebration, “ he said.
Adeyemi said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as
investigations on the matterwas concluded.
The PPRO, however, declined the request to speak with the suspect
who was still in Police custody as of time of filing the story.
