PDP Govs meeting: We’re in Lagos to strategise
Governors of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stormed Lagos
State Monday to strategise on how the party would emerge victorious
ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking with newsmen on the purpose of their meeting in Lagos, the
Chairman of the Governors’ Forum and governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill
Akpabio, stated that he and his colleagues are in the state to brainstorm on
how to secure victory for the party in the polls.
“We came here to brainstorm on how to win the election and how to take
southern Nigeria. We expect to win on the first ballot.
“PDP cannot panic because we have presence in over 12,000 polling units,
PDP is a national party.
“We are going to discuss all issues. Unlike others we have a responsibility
to Nigerians. It is our responsibility; we will look at all the issues bothering
on the election.
“Many have not received card readers. Would you allow 80 per cent to be
disenfranchised? We want to discuss the strategies that will give a free and
fair election,” he said.
However, the gathering may not be only a PDP governors forum affair as
other stakeholders in the party were sighted at the Eko Hotels venue of the
meeting.
Among those sighted at the venue include Chief Olabode George, Minister
of Aviation, Osita Chidoka; Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Jimi Agbaje,
among others.
Governors present include Jonah Jang of Plateau State, Babangida Aliyu of
Niger State, Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State,
Mukthar Yero of Kaduna State, Liyel Imoke of Cross River State and Ibrahim
Shema.
As at 11:30pm, the strategic meeting was still ongoing as journalists keep
vigil on the outcome of the meeting.
