Police Arraign Three Men For Attempting To Murder The Wife Of Pastor Ighodalo Of Trinity House Church
Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 24-year-old dog handler, Abdulkareem Mohammed and two others before a Lagos Magistrate Court, sitting at Tinubu area of the state, for allegedly attempting to murder Ibidunni Ighodalo, the wife of Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House Church.
Mohammed, a 36-old native doctor, Akeem Makinde-Ewuosi, and Paul Eke, a 29-year-old security man were arraigned before the court on a two count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder.
According to the prosecutor, Chidi Okoye the three men, who live at 24, Moloney street Lagos island, 21 Joseph street Lagos Island, and Ilaje Street, Ajah, Lagos, respectively conspired amongst themselves and attempted to murder the pastor's wife.
Okoye alleged that the poisonous substance with which the first defendant attempted to murder the victim has the same properties when tested together with the one that was used to poisoned the pastor's dog, named Simba, who was four months old.
The police prosecutor also informed the court that the poison caused the death of the dog and that the incident occurred between January 28 and February 10, 2015 at about 10pm at 4b ogun street Osborne Foreshore Estate in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He also alleged that the first defendant, who have been allegedly having sexual fantasies towards Mrs Ighodalo, planned to kill her husband after the death of the dog so that the affection she has for her husband and the dog will be transferred to him.
Okoye further claimed that the defendants were later apprehended, after Mrs. Ighodalo said she prayed and the Holy Spirit revealed to her that something was wrong.
According to him the defendants after they were confronted with the allegation, confessed to have poisoned the dog and that they were also planning to getting rid of her.
The prosecutor also told the court that the first defendant claimed that he got the said poison from the second defendant who is a native doctor.
The police lawyer also claimed that the native doctor also gave Mohammed a black soap and powder, asking him to buy a sponge and bath with it, and then throw the sponge in to the river.
Okoye claimed that the native doctor said after the bath, Mohammed would be able to demand for N10 million and any other thing he want from Mrs Ituah and she would give them to him.
The offences according to the prosecutor is contrary to sections 409, and punishable under sections 228 (1) (2), of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.
However the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charged, a development that made Magistrate A. O Awogboro to granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
Before adjourning the case to March 18, 2015, Magistrate Awogboro directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send it to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutor, DPP, for legal advice.
