10 killed as Boko Haram abducts Adamawa council chair


The Vice Chairman of Hong Local Government,
Adamawa State, Mr. Bijida Yakubu, has been
abducted by Boko Haram elements.
During the abduction, three of his bodyguards were
killed while the insurgent group lost seven members.
A source told Freedom Online: “When the insurgents
stormed Gayafa village, they took Yakubu and his
bodyguards by surprise. Three of the bodyguards
were immediately shot dead but other bodyguards
started shooting the insurgents and seven of them
were killed. The remaining insurgents, eventually,
succeeded in abducting the council chief. There was
blood all over the scene. It was gory,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),
Othman Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of
Police (DSP), confirmed the abduction.
Abubakar revealed that the vice chairman’s shoes
had been recovered.
“You know, insurgents attacked the village last
week. The vice chairman who hailed from the
village was on an assessment visit with some hunters
when the insurgents attacked and over-powered
them.
” About seven insurgents were killed in the
encounter before they over-powered the hunters and
took away the vice chairman,” he said.
Hussaini claimed that the abducted vice chairman
was later allowed by his captors to call his wife with
his cell phone before the device was switched off.
The Chairman of Adamawa branch of Association of
Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji
Sahabo Gurin, also confirmed the incident.
