Wabba, 2 others vie for Nigeria Labour Congress presidency
The President of Medical and Health
Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, General Secretary
of Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) Joe Ajaero and
President of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers
(NUPENG) Igwe Achese have been cleared by the Nigeria Labour Congress
(NLC) to vie for its presidency in elections scheduled for next month.
A list of duly cleared contestants for other offices in the election to be conducted during NLC’s National Delegates’ Conference, early February shows that President of Nigeria Civil Service Union Comrade Kiri Mohammed, General Secretary of the National Union of Textiles Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria Issa Aremu and his counterpart in the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities Peters Adeyemi will contest the deputy president’s position.
Incidentally, there are three openings for the position.
Those contesting for vice president are Adelegan Solomon, Asuguni Amechi, Dutsinma Lawal and Oyelekan Lateef. Also, four of them have four positions to fill.
President of the National Union of Local Government Employees Khaleel Ibrahim is the sole contestant for the position of treasurer, with Safiyanu Mohammed also emerging sole candidate for the post of financial secretary.
For the position of trustee, Isok Boniface and Otu Kelechi will slug it out while Sunday Alhassan, Danjuma Papa, Leke Success, Anchaver Simon, R.S. Ogbaloi, Okoro R.B, Bamgbose Yemisi and Yahaya Yasin will vie for three slots available for auditors.
Amina Danesi is the sole candidate for the position of ex-officio which has two vacant slots to be filled.
The contestants were cleared by NLC’s conference credential’s committee chaired by the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Comrade Nasir Fagge with the congress’ Head of Administration Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja serving as secretary.
