No plan to postpone elections —INEC

•As IGP warns politicians, political parties

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said there is no plan whatsoever to postpone the forthcoming elections and reassured that all the elections would hold as scheduled.
This came as the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, on Tuesday, read riot acts to politicians and political parties, warning them to play by the rules of the game or face the full weight of the law.
INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, speaking at a one-day workshop to train security agencies for the election, said there was no basis for concern over funding of INEC with regards to the forthcoming general election, adding that the commission was comfortable with the fund it had.
Jega, who was represented by a national commissioner in the commission, Dr Ishmeal Igbani, the chairman of INEC Electoral Training Institute, said “nobody will postpone election. Anytime there is election in Nigeria, there is always some form of tension. I don’t think people should be afraid, but it is also essential that we get ready just in case.”
Abba, speaking at the training session, said he would not hesitate to deal with political actors who flout the electoral rules as stipulated in the Electoral Act 2010, as amended and the constitution of the country.
Speaking through the commissioner of police in charge of election monitoring, Mohammed Ghanzali, Abba said the police, being the leading security agency for all elections, would enforce the rules of the law.
