EXTORTION: Delta Poly Sacks 2 Lecturers
…as vigilante foils robbery attempt on church
The governing council of the Delta State- owned polytechnic, Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, has approved the immediate termination of appointment of two of its members of staff over alleged gross misconduct and extortion.
The affected staff, a senior lecturer III of Science and Laboratory Technology and Senior Instructor, Department of Building Technology (names withheld), were, according to official bulletin issued at the weekend, found guilty of extorting money from students for project supervision.
While confirming the incident, the rector of the institution, Dr. Jacob Oboreh, said that the termination was absolutely based on the decision of the council after a thorough investigation in line with the extant rules of the polytechnic and the recent academic board approved disciplinary measures against staff who were involved in such act.
He said that the termination of the lecturers took effect from last Friday, adding that their names have been withdrawn from payroll of the institution.
Meanwhile, attempt by men of the underworld to steal musical instrument from a new generation church in Asaba was foiled by men of the vigilante group in the area.
DSP Celestina Kalu, police public relations officer in the state, confirmed that the vigilante group arrested two of the suspected thieves, and that upon interrogation they confessed to have been former workers of the church who needed money to pay their rents after the pastor of the church refused to pay their salaries for six months.
