 Boko Haram loots food, medicine stores in Yobe


Suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Friday evening launched fresh attacks on Damagum town in Yobe state and burnt down a police station, military camp and looted shops.

Damagum is the headquarters of Fune Local Government Area of the state.

Malam Hassan Damagum told our correspondent that the insurgents attacked the Military/Police check points before they later burnt down the Divisional Police station as well as the police barracks and military camp.

He said the security operatives tried their best to repel the attack but were overwhelmed by the firepower of the insurgents.
"The assailants drove into the town in Hilux vans and motorcycles, such a large number that the few security operatives on ground could not face them," he said.

Daily Trust gathered that the official residence of the Local Government chairman was also razed by the rampaging insurgents.
A shop owner, Malam Ilyas said that the attackers burgled medicine and stores and carted away food and medicine.

Chairman of Fune local Government Area, Alhaji Digma Gana who confirmed the incident said no life was lost in the attack but many public buildings were burnt.
