Abia State PPA secretariat bombed
Chairman
of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Abia State, Prince Emeka
Okafor has accused the Abia state government and the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) of masterminding the explosion that rocked the party
secretariat in Umuahia on Sunday evening.
Addressing
journalists on Monday Prince Okafor said the incident was not the first
time PPA office and personnel have been attacked but thanked God that
no life was lost.
“We
suspect our landlord, the Abia state government and PDP. They destroyed
our party office in Umuokpara. We reported the matter to the police and
nothing happened. They went about the city of Umuahia saying that PPA
was dead. They even placed a coffin at the secretariat. They have
destroyed our posters and billboards in Aba,” he said.
Okafor
said he was informed of the explosion at about 7pm on Sunday and that
the fire was put out by sympathizers who were close by.
He
alleged that the explosion was caused by a locally made improvised
explosive device put in two paint tins connected with a motorcycle
battery.
Prince
Okafor said upon the discovery, he invited a police patrol team which
confirmed the items as explosive and took the tins away. He said the
anti-bomb unit had come to the scene and investigation was still
ongoing.
When the state police command spokesman ASP Geoffrey Ogbonna was contacted, he said he was yet to get the signal.
